Alliance Library System (ALS) is a regional multi-type library consortium with 259 public, academic, school, corporate, and medical libraries. Headquartered in East Peoria, Illinois, the ALS’ service region encompasses 14,008 square miles and serves over one million customers. Although ALS’ “primary community” is the staff of member libraries, the System exists ultimately to impact, improve, and develop services for all residents in the service area. The Illinois State Library charges ALS with four primary responsibilities: resource sharing, delivery of library materials, continuing education, and consulting. In addition, Alliance Library System houses the Mid-Illinois Talking Book Center which provides audio books and reader advisory information for eligible patrons with visual, physical, and/or reading disabilities.

The roots of the Public Library of Charlotte Mecklenburg County can be traced to 1891. In the last years of the 20th century, the library system grew to over 20 locations (including five regional libraries offering expanded services) serving people in neighborhoods and towns across the county. From a grand total of 2,526 books when the Carnegie library opened in 1903, today's library system contains over 1.5 million adult and children's classics, favorite paperbacks, modern best sellers, videos, CDs and DVDs, with over 500 employees county-wide helping to make information available to virtually anyone who wants it. As the county and region grows, the Library reaches out in traditional and new ways.
PLCMC also operate the Teen Second Life education island Eye4You Alliance and welcome applications from adults interested in working with 13-17 year old teenagers!

Fleet is the physical representation of all of our promises to our customers. The name Squirrelverse has a twofold meaning. Firstly, it reflects our mascot Fleet Goldenberg and our code of ethics and values. Secondly, the Squirrelverse is a place where the ideas and philosophies of the future are first created, expressed and given form before being introduced to the world!
